The competition based selection of 60 cities for India’s Smart Cities Mission has brought to light some key results of city-wise assessment, pointing out gaps in the present levels of city infrastructure and its potential for improvement. The process has led city and state level governance bodies to identify the shortcomings in urban development and management on several counts and draw up new plans to upgrade city infrastructure.
Unveiling technologies that can make cities and communities more energy-efficient, connected, secure and better prepared for the Smart Cities Mission, the first unified edition of Light India and Electrical Building Technology India opened its doors in New Delhi today.
Inaugurating this premier trade fair in New Delhi, Shri Piyush Goyal, Hon’ble Union Minister of Power, Government of India said: I am delighted to be back at Light India this year and must complement the organisers and ELCOMA for putting up this great show for the benefit of the industry and promotion of energy efficient technologies. Our ultimate goal is to strengthen Indian manufacturing. The industry is reinventing itself and I saw some very new products here and would like to initiate talks for bulk orders. I urge the industry to bring down the price points and look at adding value to their products so that the innovations can reach the common man.” Lauding the innovative lights on display at the exhibition, he also announced: “I can actually imagine putting up 10 to 15 million LEDs and solar street lights, particularly in rural areas.”

International delegations from Global Lighting Association (GLA), International Solid State Lighting Alliance (ISA) and the Japan Electric Lamp Manufacturers Association (JLMA) are expected to be part of this networking forum which will take place on 6 October.
Located across halls 8 – 12A at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi, the three-day fair will be open to trade professionals and decision makers until 7 October.
